FBI’s Most Wanted Nigerian Fraudster Tobechi Onwuhara Arrested in Australia

A Nigerian born sophisticated con artist, Tobechi Onwuhara, who fled Florida in August 2008 amid an intense FBI investigation, has been caught in Sydney, Australia and sent back to the U.S. to face a string of fraud charges.

He was on the FBI’s most wanted list for several years for his alleged involvement in an elaborate scheme that defrauded the financial industry out of tens of millions of dollars.

According to a report published by CNN in 2011 while he was on the run, he was a criminal genius:

In America he became one of the world’s most successful cyberscammers, a criminal genius who used his talents to filet a poorly regulated banking and credit system. In less than three years Onwuhara stole a confirmed $44 million, according to the FBI, which believes the total may be anywhere from $80 million to $100 million. All he needed was an Internet connection and a cellphone.

Omotola makes her US TV debut, stars in US TV series, Bounce

Omosexy has finally made her US TV debut. She's guest starring in an American TV drama series shot in LA called Bounce starring Kimberly Elise (pictured above with Omotola), Dean Cain, Bernie Kopell, Eric Stoltz and Akon amongst others.

Oscar Pistorius' older brother also accused of killing a woman

Carl Pistorius (left), the older brother of the Blade Runner, accused of killing his girlfriend, is also facing a manslaughter charge. Carl is charged with culpable homicide over the accidental death of a woman in a car crash in 2010.

His lawyer Kenny Oldwage, who also represents Oscar Pistorius, confirmed the charges today. Carl Pistorius appeared in court just two days before his brother's bail hearing last week, according to the Daily Mail.

According to the BBC, police conducted tests on Carl Pistorius' blood at the time of the accident, and he was found not to have been drinking alcohol. 

Carl was initially accused of reckless or negligent driving, but the matter was later provisionally withdrawn. However, the charges were reinstated after the victim's family said they believed it was more than an accident. Carl Pistorius' trial is set to begin at the end of March. 

Meanwhile the police have told Reeva Steenkamp's family that Oscar crushed her skull with a cricket bat before shooting her dead. Grieving relatives who saw her body before Tuesday’s cremation in Port Elizabeth described horrific injuries from the cricket bat, and entry wounds from 9mm bullets fired by Pistorius.  www.mannastores.com

UK police now suggesting acid victim Naomi Oni threw the liquid on herself

Hmmmm. Another day, another bizarre story. Y'all remember the Nigerian girl that was left disfigured after acid was thrown in her face as she walked home on Sunday December 30th 2012? (read story HERE) Well, now the UK police are suggesting Naomi Oni may have thrown the burning liquid on herself. But for what purpose? Below is how the UK Daily Mail is reporting it...

Police are believed to have seized a computer belonging to a young woman who was badly scarred in an acid attack amid suspicions that she may have caused the injuries herself. But her family fear that detectives are not doing enough to catch the perpetrator of the attack and are focusing on a 'crazy' line of inquiry.

Naomi Oni, 20, was left with horrific injuries following the incident which happened as she left work at the end of last year and was in hospital for nearly a month receiving treatment.

Police are understood to have taken Miss Oni's laptop and are said to have discovered that she had searched the internet for websites about acid attacks before she received her injuries.

Lest We Immortalize Nuisance …the “Singer Goldie” Situation.

About ten years ago I lost a friend in an armed robbery incident. Obviously the armed robbers were not satisfied with robbing they needed to make a point by harming someone in the house and my friend’s mother was their target. As they swung the axe my friend who was the scholar of our class in secondary school protected his mother with his head….he died; no national award, no postmortem speech from the Governor and of course no celebrity burial; he was just another guy, the fact that he took a battle axe to his head for his mother was irrelevant

This and many more of it happens in a country wherein people get millions both in local and foreign currency for playing football; a country wherein comedians shake hands with the President and women who kiss strange men on camera in the name of acting take home National Award and an immoral youth who made fame singing about his private part is given special opportunity to interview the President in a desperate campaign strategy because the thinking is that the community is populated by zombies and bimbos who will vote in a PHD holder on the “honour” of a nuisance whose only relevance to society, apart from lewd music, is competition in air and space. Disturbing new images have emerged of the dead body of the 12-year-old son of a Tamil leader that researchers say could prove he was executed by Sri Lankan government forces.

The photographs of Balachandran Prabhakaran, son of Velupillai Prabhakaran, head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, were taken in May 2009 at the end of the government's conflict with the rebels. www.mannastores.com

Serious Traffic in V/I tomorrow - Eko Atlantic City opening

There will be heavy traffic in Lagos tomorrow, especially around V/I as several dignitaries are coming for the opening of the Eko Atlantic City Phase 1 inauguration. President Goodluck, Governor Fashola and even Bill Clinton among other "dignitaries" will be in attendance. It will begin at 10 a.m so the Ikeja area may be affected as well (they should be coming in from the airport).

Veteran actor Justus Esiri passes on

Another day another incredibly sad news. Legendary actor Justus Esiri has died. The Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), famous for his role as the Village Headmaster in popular 80's sitcom of the same name, passed on last night. No details yet on the cause of death, but will update you guys as soon as I know something.

My Take on the iPad Mini After 7 Weeks

I bought the original iPad, the iPad 2 (though I protested), and even the iPad 3. However, I eventually stopped using each of them. I could not find a compelling reason to carry it over my MacBook Air, other than to read books. For that function, I used a Kindle.

My biggest complaint with the iPad was it was just too big and too heavy, especially for reading. I know, this would be a laughable complaint just a few short years ago. But compared to a book, it was uncomfortable. www.mannastores.com

Ex Eagles star Okey Isima dies at 56

Former Rangers International FC of Enugu and Green Eagles of Nigeria defender, Okey Isima, is dead. The ex footballer turned engineer died in Abuja yesterday Monday February 18th after a brief illness. He was 56.

Okey Isima was a member of the Eagles team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations in Lagos and also played at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

Okey was based in Atlanta Georgia for many years before relocating to Nigeria a few years ago 'to contribute his quota in bringing back the lost glory of Nigerian football'.

He is survived by his wife and four children.

Oscar Pistorius may have killed his girlfriend in a fit of rage

He claimed he mistook his girlfriend for a burglar when he shot her, but South African police has dismissed the claim. They believe the blade runner killed his model girlfriend, 29 year old Reeva Steenkamp, in a fit of rage possibly caused by performance-boosting steroids. 

First steroids were found in his home. Then Reeva was found in her night wear, which means she didn't just enter his home at the time he shot her at 3am Thursday morning. The police found a bloody cricket bat in the bedroom. Reeva's skull had been 'crushed' in the attack according to police. They also found a smashed bathroom door. Plus neighbours claimed they heard argument coming from his home earlier in the evening.

The police believe that Oscar first shot Reeva in the bedroom, hit her in the hip. She ran and hid herself in the toilet, he followed her and shot her three more times. 

Police investigating the killing are focusing on Reeva's iPad, they suspect she received an early-hours message that may have sparked a row.

A South African news website today published a colour graphic of what they believe happened in Oscar's home (above). He will appear in court tomorrow and faces life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder as alleged by the state prosecutors. Meanwhile Nike has dropped him as their brand ambassador . www.mannastores.com

Majid Michel to guest star on Tinsel

Ghanaian leading man Majid Michel will be joining the star-studded Tinsel cast from Tuesday February 19. He will be playing himself in the dramatic soapie that is broadcast every day (Monday to Friday) at 7:30 PM on AfricaMagic Entertainment.

Asked why he took on a Tinsel guest role, Majid’s answer is both emotional and practical.

“A long time ago, I realized that my acting is not only about myself, it’s an extension of many things that I hope for in our industry. So I made up my mind to extend myself to film projects that improve our movie making prospects within the continent. I believe that this can also inspire young actors coming behind me.  Tinsel is a typical reflection of that, after all, its’ one of the most successful soaps out of Nigeria.”

Gunmen Kidnap Seven Foreign Employees of Setraco in Bauchi

Seven foreign workers of giant construction company, Setraco, were kidnapped last night by gunmen in Bauchi. The attackers went to the Lebanese-owned construction site of Setraco in Jama'are town, where they killed a security guard and kidnapped the foreign workers

Adamu Aliyu, the chairman of the local government area identified those kidnapped as one British citizen, one Greek, one Italian and four Lebanese. 

Bauchi State Police Chief Mohammed Ladan told AFP that the unknown gunmen first attacked a local prison, burning two police trucks, before targeting Setraco, which is in the area building a road. 

Nigeria: …Population hits 170m

National Population Commission (NPC) yesterday startled Nigerians, as it declared that Nigerian population has now risen to 170 million.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on the commencement of fieldwork for the 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in Nigeria, the NPC Chairman, Eze Festus Odimegwu, stated that Nigeria’s population grows at 3.2 per cent per annum, stressing that by the end of this year, the country’s population would have moved from the 160 million in 2006 to 170 million in 2013. Odimegwu, who was represented at the event by the Chairman, NPC Technical Management Team and Vital Registration, Dr Festus Uzor, also noted that the effective management of Nigeria’s  population for sustainable development required collection, processing and dissemination of demographic data, not only through periodic census exercise but also regular surveys and registration of births, deaths and migration. www.mannastores.com

Goldie Harvey : Nigerian Singer Passes On

What a sad way to end the day. We are still in shock about the news reaching us that Nigerian singerGoldie Harvey is dead. Details of her death are still sketchy but media reports say she passed on last night at Reddington Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos in the arms of her close friend, Denrele.

Goldie had just returned to Nigeria from the U.S where she attended the Grammy Awards with her record label, Kennis Music boss, Kenny Ogungbe. Kenny St. Best, an artiste also under Kennis Music confirmed the news to BellaNaija.

She said “It’s true. I still can’t believe it. I’m still in shock.”

Her death is so sad and sudden and comes as a deep shock to me. I remember meeting her for an interviewsome months ago and she struck me as a very pleasant lady. Beneath all the glitz of her glamorous career, Goldie is a very sweet and kind lady {still very hard to say “was”}. She is well spoken and the tone of her messages and emails were always so polite. Even when she returned from the Big Brother House and I tried to get some scoop from her experience in the house, she declined in the kindest way possible.

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get to meet this lovely lady with such a kind heart. Denrele and Goldie were such close friends, I can’t imagine what he must be going through right now. They were supposed to launch their Reality Show ‘Tru Friendship’ in a couple of weeks.

The Enugu state governor spoke to journalists in Enugu on Monday. Below is what he shared...

“Late August or early September, last year, I am not sure again of the dates, but it is about that time. I was privileged to be one of those nominated by the Nigeria Governors Forum to go to Germany to understudy their federal system. A Governor was picked from each of the six geo-political zones. I represented the South-East and of course, we were led by our Chairman, Rotimi Amaechi.

“On our way to Germany, I decided to go a little bit earlier, passing through London to do my medicals because of what I will call lack of our time. We do not have time here. So, I decided to take that opportunity, got to London and did my medicals and was certified fit. I was given a clean bill of health. But I had a little growth here (pointing at the right side of his neck) that was not visible to anybody. I am a very observant person. I noticed it, showed it to my doctor and he touched it and said he didn’t feel it is anything serious, that I should just try and forget it. www.mannastores.com
